Hi, I’m Olivia Craig
Olivia Craig, Founder of Raising Mindful Minis
When I became a mother, I found myself slipping into the same old ways most of our parents raised us; parenting paradigms based on superiority and control.
I didn’t understand how I could get so frustrated when I had years of experience practicing yoga and meditation. As I continued my way through grad school, while simultaneously navigating motherhood for the first time, I couldn’t stop thinking about my childhood; the yelling, the belittling, and the lack of autonomy had finally caught up after all these years.
You see, there is no such thing as a perfect parent, and I forgive my parents, as I know they simply did their best. At the end of the day, we are all doing our best and there is no perfect way to raise a child. We will always make mistakes and find ourselves struggling to manage our anger and frustration. However, if you are reading this, you are likely already taking time to acknowledge that as a parent, you want to do better for your child. What if instead of relentlessly making the same mistakes, time and time again, we began to bring awareness to our flaws, finding the underlying truth behind our reactions, and discovering new ways to become a calm, responsive, and compassionate parent?
Mindful parenting allows you to rediscover your inner self, both as a human and as a parent. You can’t pour from an empty cup, therefore, establishing your own practice is imperative to creating a practice the whole family can contribute to. I have created a model that further integrates breaking generational patterns, allowing for a more individualized, transformational journey in parenting. I call it the mindful parenting map. About me
I am a mother to a beautiful daughter and a wife to an incredibly supportive and loving husband. We reside in the state of Michigan and we do not have plans to leave anytime soon. We cherish the four seasons, our curiosity to continue growing our urban homestead, and quality time spent together outdoors with our cats roaming the yard. My husband can be found strumming his guitar, while my daughter discovers her own unique way of raising her baby dolls. When I am not working, I am often whipping up something in the kitchen or reading a million-plus books to our daughter. Together, we are doing our best to create fulfilling memories that our children can continue to cultivate as new generations form.
I finished undergrad with a degree in child and family development and continued on with a master’s in family life education. I also achieved my certificate in health and wellness coaching, along with my 200HR YTT and 95HR CYTT.
My Approach
I believe successful parenting is both an interpersonal and intrapersonal process, meaning that in order to be the parents our children deserve to have, we must rediscover ourselves through true, inner work. Once we have transpired a further understanding of ourselves, we can involve our children in creating a home centered around compassion, peace, and authenticity. I have created an easy-to-follow mindful parenting map, allowing you to master each step before creating a home you feel proud to provide for your family.
